Textile. Product. Space.

Pia Noll-Burkard

I am a designer with a background in product design and a clear focus on interiors. Spaces fascinate me – it feels like they always have. How do people live? What does your home tell me about you? And how does an interior influence the way you feel?

In 2008 I graduated as a Diplom-Designerin from Hochschule Niederrhein in Krefeld: product design, specialising in textiles. Alongside my studies I had the chance to work for a traditional German home textile company and for an internationally active design studio.

Even then it was clear to me that I would go my own way. I wanted to work as a freelance designer – diverse and across markets. I love the variety of projects and working with different clients towards a shared goal. Different target groups, different markets, different requirements: all of this fascinates me. Since then I have specialised in textile design for home & living, and over the past 17 years I have accompanied many great brands and seen wonderful products come to life with my designs.

Yet my heart has never beaten for textile design alone. I have a great passion for designing living spaces – rooms in which we live, sleep, celebrate, eat, come together or find peace on our own. Textiles play a major role here, as do colour, material and form.

My work connects two perspectives: the person in the room and the requirements of economically viable products. I am interested in how colour, pattern and design can be used deliberately to create atmosphere – while developing designs that are functional, reproducible and ready for the market.

This attitude is how my design studio has evolved. Building on my experience in textile design, I increasingly work in product and interior design – thinking spaces and products more holistically, and placing design where it has an emotional impact and makes economic sense.

I work conceptually, in a structured way and close to practice – always with an eye on production processes, materials, series capability and target groups. The aim is to develop interior products and design concepts that provide orientation, last, and create real added value for brands, manufacturers and users.

Designstudio Pinoo stands for design that creates atmosphere, considers people and naturally takes economic conditions into account.
